Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg underscored Malta’s steadfast commitment to strengthen bilateral relationship during a high-level bilateral meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, held in Budapest, Hungary.
Central to their discussions were the pressing issues impacting Europe and its neighbours, particularly the ongoing developments in the Russian War against Ukraine and its wide-ranging implications on both countries, Europe, and the international community.
Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg highlighted the importance of collective action within the European Union to address institutional reform, migration, and enlargement.
Malta’s leadership on the international stage was also a focal point of the discussions. The Deputy Prime Minister updated his Hungarian counterpart on Malta’s ongoing multilateral initiatives. “I had the pleasure to update Minister Szijjártó on Malta’s ongoing two-year term as a non-permanent seat holder at the Security Council of the United Nations and Malta’s work as Chair-in-Office of the Organization for Security Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).”
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed optimism about the outcomes of the meeting, noting that it had further solidified the bond between the two nations. “Once again, I am grateful for the opportunity to have this bilateral meeting with Minister Szijjártó. I am confident that today’s exchanges contributed to further enriching the relations between our two countries.”
Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg also participated in a meeting with Hungarian Minister for European Union Affairs, János Bóka. Discussions focused on advancing cooperation within the EU framework, particularly in light of evolving EU policies and strategies.
