The Minister for Health and Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela in the presence of Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, inaugurated restoration work carried out in the Addolorata Cemetery, which included among others, restoration work of -chapels and various monuments.
Through this restoration, which was carried out with an investment of €6 million, an important part of our country’s history has been preserved for present and future generations.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained how this project involved a wide range of works around this historic cemetery; from preservation of the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, to the restoration of the Gatt Chapel, the Exedra, the fountain, the Gibjetta, the Seven of June Monument and several other monuments.
“I thank the workers of the Medical Services Foundation and the Office of the Health Superintendence that through joint work in the last 5 years, careful work and dedication was done to restore it an important jewel that we have in our country,” concluded Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna said, “Through this ceremony we lived the beautiful experience of a historical moment of one of the heritages of our country. I wish everyone who visits this holy place to feel the comfort of our faith in the resurrection from the dead. I thank the government and the Medical Services Foundation for their investment and work.”
