Government committed to assist Malta Community Chest Fund

President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono and Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela

During a joint news conference, between the President of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono, and the Minister for Health and Active Aging, Jo Etienne Abela, information was given about the discussions between the Malta Community Chest Fund ( MCCF) and the Ministry of Health regarding the financing mechanism for oncological care.

The President meant that the main reason why this news conference was called was that the need was felt to give peace of mind to the people that, as long as the discussions are ongoing and the new mechanism will be able to be operated, the needs of the patients will continue to be addressed by the MCCF, as has always been done until now, with the financial assistance given by the Government for this purpose.

The MCCF was originally founded for social purposes to help cases in our society that need help when they are going through difficult situations. This commitment of the MCCF is very much needed in our society.

The MCCF does not have one particular purpose, but it has always been a comfort in every difficult situation that people have. In order to continue to be in a position to help as and where it is needed, the MCCF needs the support of the public, which resorts to the calls for help from the MCCF, and particularly in the collection that is done with -activity L’Istrina the day after Christmas, every year.

Minister for Health and Active Aging stressed the Government’s commitment to, as it has done over the last few years, continue to assist the Malta Community Chest Fund with every means at its disposal .

Dr Abela praised the commitment of the Malta Community Chest Fund in favor of people in need in all areas of special needs. He went on to say that the discussions about the function of the MCCF in the field of oncological care are at an advanced stage. This process is completed when a mechanism for the inclusion of innovative medicines is prepared and implemented.

Accordingly, Minister Abela concluded by saying that, until the new structure comes into force, the MCCF will continue to perform its function with the Ministry of Health and Active Aging offering all assistance. This means that, until the new mechanism comes into force and begins to be operated, patients who need oncological treatment will continue to turn to the MCCF, which with the financial assistance of the Government will continue to give them all the assistance that require
