Quality Country: Policy in favor of investments and quality workers

STMicroelectronics is investing with an emphasis on quality. An investment that, while it will increase productivity, will not require more workers, as the existing ones will be trained while the best technology is being used.

Such projects are finding the support of the Government as they are fulfilling our vision of continuing to achieve economic results, with less pressure on the country. That’s how we keep moving forward with quality and we keep investing in people as we did in this Budget.

This was the message of Minister Silvio Schembri and Minister Byron Camilleri during a news conference with the theme Country of quality. The Ministers listed how the Malta Vision 2050 and the labor migration policy will be directing the country to continue moving forward with quality while we continue to invest in people as we have done in this Budget.

The Minister for the Economy said that through Vision Malta 2050 we will be delivering 13 targeted measures with clear targets for growth focused on quality, not just quantity. Our main goal is to improve the quality of life for our citizens. “Each measure aligns with Vision Malta 2050, which focuses on key pillars such as Reforms and Investments, Technological Advances, and Skills Development and Sector-Specific Growth. These measures collectively support our nation’s commitment to sustainable progress and an elevated standard of living for all citizens.”

Minister Silvio Schembri added that these measures provide a clear roadmap to move Malta’s economy forward through growth focused on quality. This budget not only reflects where we are as a country and the progress we have made, but also charts a clear path for the future. The main objective remains the improvement of the quality of life of citizens, achieved through high value investments and initiatives that give priority to sustainable growth. He concluded by saying that this budget puts us to continue on a path of innovation, resilience, and prosperity.

Minister Byron Camilleri claimed that you don’t have a quality country if you don’t have a strong economic growth rate. And Malta has among the biggest growth in the European Union. You don’t have a quality country, if you don’t have a low unemployment rate. Today Malta has the lowest rate of unemployment and long-term employment. You cannot have a country of quality, if you do not have the citizens in the world of work.

Today we have the largest number of people in the world of work. But he reiterated that in order to continue to have a country of quality, you must also have an administration that understands that society changes all the time and is therefore ready to meet challenges. He explained that in a country where you have full-employment, then the emphasis today is not on the quantity of jobs that will be created, but must focus on the quality. He explained that it is these types of strategic decisions that will lead us to make a major reform in the way our country manages its labor immigration policy.

And what STMicroelectronics is doing will be replicated in other workplaces. A Realistic Policy, which understands what is needed, but directs towards quality based on four principles: the dignity and rights of workers, the need for stability in the labor market, the need to we ensure that workers from third countries are recruited only where necessary, and above all we believe in a migration policy based on the skills of the workers. He concluded that we want an economy that works for the many and from which everyone benefits.
