The Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, visited 4JM Solutions (Malta) Ltd., a company that provides innovative solutions and services in the semiconductor industry.
4JM Solutions started from the Kordin Business Incubation Center (KBIC) and grew from 13 workers in 2018 to more than 50 workers. They have continued to grow internationally, with high level industrial machinery maintenance skills. They offer assistance services and logistical support located in Southern Europe, North Africa, and Western Europe.
During the visit, Minister Schembri praised 4JM Solutions for their innovation and commitment to excellence, noting how the company’s continuous efforts contribute to Malta’s economy by creating jobs high value with good conditions, attract international customers, and foster the growth of the semiconductor industry.
“The progress being made by Maltese companies that started as a dream and grew into a multinational operation is truly inspiring. These are exactly the types of high-value industries we aim to continue to foster in our country—industries that not only offer good wages but also require minimal space while generating significant value. As we look to the future, it is crucial that Malta’s economy continues to expand in a sustainable and strategic manner. Through Vision Malta 2050, we are focused that such a high value industry continues to flourish. This will help create a more resilient economy while ensuring quality jobs and opportunities for future generations. The work of 4JM Solutions closely aligns with this vision by advancing technological capabilities and pushing our country towards a more ecological and resilient economy,” Minister Schembri asserted.
Semiconductor technology is one of the new economic niches we are developing in Malta. A key development is the agreement between Malta Enterprise and IMEC, aimed at strengthening research and development in semiconductor technologies in Malta while incentivizing the industry in particular start-ups in areas of chip design. Malta Enterprise also played a crucial role in the discussions on the European Chips Act, by recognizing the semiconductor sector as an essential economic driver for both Malta and the EU. In addition, the country will host an international conference in November in this area focused on the Critical Role of the Global Semiconductor Industry, featuring a group of renowned experts in the field. Another initiative that will create a vibrant ecosystem that supports start-ups and established companies in this sector is the DiHubMT. Together, these initiatives drive growth in this sector, recognizing its potential to drive innovation and create high-value jobs.
As we look to the future, companies like 4JM Solutions are essential to moving towards a more resilient country through their knowledge in advanced technology and industrial solutions. Companies like these are playing an essential role in the transformation of Malta’s industrial landscape.
George Gregory, Chief Executive of Malta Enterprise, stressed, “I note with satisfaction the commitment of 4JM Solutions to innovation and growth in Malta, especially in a sector with high potential such as the semiconductor industry. Such investments are exactly what Malta Enterprise aims to support and attract. By establishing the Center of Excellence in Qawra, 4JM Solutions is not only expanding its services but also contributing significantly to the development of the industry’s technical workforce, repair capabilities of high level, and research. This type of forward-thinking investment will help position Malta as a center for advanced manufacturing and technological excellence.”
For his part, Joseph Muscat, Managing Director of 4JM Solutions, said, “We have set up a center of excellence working in automation and industry 4.0. Our journey started at the Kordin Business Incubation Center (KBIC), and through intensive work, we achieved significant progress. Today, we thrive in the semiconductor industry—a challenging but very rewarding sector.”
The contributions of such companies to Malta’s economy, together with the government’s commitment to innovation, are paving the way for long-term economic prosperity and a brighter future for all Maltese citizens.
