Xwejni beach is now a “Beach of Quality” The popular beaches of Ramla l’Hamra, Hondoq ir-Rummien and Marsalforn in Gozo have, for another year, again obtained the Blue Flag.
This means that those beaches have reached high standards in four main categories, that of water quality, environmental management, environmental education, and beach safety. Xwejni beach has now also been added to them, which for the first time was awarded the “Beach of Quality Award”. This is a step closer to this beach in the north of the island, also becoming a Blue Flag Beach in the near future.
The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri thanked the Beach Management Team under the supervision of the Intervention Team within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, which works hard with the aim of keeping these three Blue Flags while also striving for more beaches in Gozo to be added to this list, as in fact this is what will happen with Xwejni beach. “This symbol puts more responsibility on us since the Blue Flag requires local authorities, managers and beach operators to meet high standards in the four main categories, thus the public is assured that they are enjoying the beaches in the best possible environment,” continued the minister.
He stated that the Blue Flag is not simply a flag but through this scrutiny they are continuing to strengthen Gozo as an island that offers quality and excellence to all those who visit it. This year, to further strengthen the element of accessibility in these mentioned beaches, the Ministry for Gozo and Planning has invested in four amphibious chairs that will be available every day between 10am and -5.30pm. This is a free service for those who wish to make use of them. Previously, this service was only provided in Ramla beach, but now it has been extended to three other beaches.
