A public consultation on non-communicable diseases has been launched

The Ministry for Health and Active Aging has launched a consultation document on Non-Communicable Diseases, which includes a policy framework for the prevention of non-communicable diseases .

During the launch, the Minister for Health and Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela explained how Non-Communicable Diseases are long-term illnesses that are not transmitted from one person to another.

The consultation document includes key measures that facilitate the fight against this type of disease such as: reduction in tobacco use; reduction in alcohol use; reduction of overweight and obesity; healthy food; increased physical activity; earlier diagnosis; promoting mental health and well-being.

Minister Abela stressed that addressing this type of disease is a national priority. He continued that this strategy aims to foster collaboration and coordination between sectors and interested parties which should lead to an improvement in the health and well-being of the population.

Minister Abela said how these diseases are responsible for most deaths around the world. “Through this document we are continuing our work to prevent this type of disease, such as heart disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, obesity and diabetes, among others, with this work leads to a healthier life,” concluded Minister Abela.
