Demolition and excavation works stopped in tourist areas for summer

Demolition and excavation works will be prohibited from selected tourist areas between 15 June and 30 September 2024. This initiative, which is being coordinated between the Building and Construction Authority ( BCA) and the Maltese Tourism Authority (MTA), consider the inconvenience that the construction sites have on the surrounding residences and hotels.

The enforcement of Subsidiary Legislation 623.08 (Third Schedule 1c) is one way to alleviate the inconvenience that construction sites have both on the tourism industry and on the number of Maltese families who go to live in these areas. The demolition and excavation phases at a construction site are a nuisance to the surrounding residences.

Any illegal demolition and excavation work carried out between 15 June and 30 September 2023, in the locations and streets identified, can be reported to the Building and Construction Authority ( BCA) on the following telephone numbers 80049000, 20955000 or 20955555 for both Malta and Gozo, during and after office hours.

The Maltese Tourism Authority is the competent Authority to identify the locations and roads where demolition or excavation works cannot be carried out. The Malta Tourism Authority reserves the right to change or amend the list of roads as it deems necessary.
