Late Zammit goal as Malta beat Belarus in U/21 friendly

The Malta Under-21 side ended their season on a positive note after beating Belarus 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Ivan Woods’ side therefore recovered well from the 0-2 defeat to the same opponents on Wednesday.

For Malta, Dylan Ciappara started in goal while Matthew Ellul, Andrew Borg, Nathan Agius and Aleandro Garzia and Jake Engerer were all named in the starting line-up.

The match came to life in the final stages as Vladislav Zhuravlev was sent off for Belarus with eight minutes to go and one minute later, Mattia Veselji was brought down inside the area but the Floriana forward’s effort was parried by goalkeeper Artem Karatai.

However, on the 85th, Malta was awarded another penalty after a foul by Aleksey Dunaev on Andrea Zammit and the latter made no mistake from the penalty spot.
