“The video game development strategy, which we launched in 2018, is leading to more local and international companies investing in this field in our country.” This was said by the Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri during a visit he made to a local igaming company KanonGaming.
KanonGaming is a Maltese company that has been operating since 2012, which recently is also investing in the field of video game development with the opening of a studio in our own country called “epic nuggets”.
Ivan Filletti, Chief Executive of Gaming Malta, explained how the idea of KanonGaming investing in the video gaming industry started after a visit to Basecamp, in Gaming Malta. “There the founder of KanonGaming met one of the start-up companies in the sector and decided to invest in this start-up,” said Mr. Filletti.
Nikolai Livori, founder of KannonGaming, explained how since 2012 they have always worked in the igaming field and recently took the opportunity to invest in the video game development sector in our own country. “We are trying to make a bridge between igaming and video game development.”
Minister Silvio Schembri concluded by saying, “This is the way we are creating new economic niches for our country. Sectors that we are constantly seeing grow in our country and continue to attract more talent and investment. Today’s visit also shows us how good a decision it was to have an incubator for start-ups in this sector, Basecamp, and how with the help of Gaming Malta we bring the investment towards talent.”
