Around 47,000 students benefited from the Culture Pass during this school year

Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici and Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima announce the latest details and statistics regarding the Culture Pass

The Culture Pass has been for the last few years offering students a unique opportunity to be exposed to culture and art from a young age. During the 2023/2024 school year, approximately 47,000 students benefited from the Culture Pass, which shows a significant increase in the number of students taking advantage of this initiative.

This program not only allows students to express their talents, but also gives them the possibility to attend cultural and artistic events both inside and outside the school.

The Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici and the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima visited the Primary school ‘A ‘Zabbar where they followed a show aimed at little students.

Minister Owen Bonnici said how this initiative shows how the Culture Pass is contributing significantly to the education and personal development of students through culture and art. “This initiative continues to become more and more popular and helps to strengthen the educational community, while strengthening the cultural and creative ecology,” continued the minister.

Minister Clifton Grima spoke about the importance of an education that covers all aspects that are part of our lives, including art and culture. “Cultural and artistic nurturing in our children is as important as any other subject that is taught in our educational system. Through this initiative we are seeing to increase the creative potential of these students. This program also complements the teaching of the National Curriculum Framework and adds value to artistic education and other curricular subjects and therefore we are seeing that what is taught, there is also its experience”, said the the minister.

The Culture Pass has been offered to students attending State, Church and independent schools since December 2016. This year, because the popularity of the Culture Pass program continues to increase, the budget has been increased to €250,000. This testifies to how much this initiative is appreciated and how effective it is in improving the educational experience of the students.
