The General Workers’ Union has lost a court case which found the Union was breaching the lease agreement for its headquarters – the Workers’ Memorial Building in Valletta – by subletting parts of the building to ARMS Ltd and to Sciacca Grill Ltd. The court decision should see both these companies having to move out of the Union building.
The case had been brought by the Nationalist Party in 2017 with then party leader Simon Busuttil calling for the GWU to lose the rights to the building.
Judge Mark Simiana rejected a request to cancel the GWU’s lease on the government-owned property.
