Universal Air is delighted to unveil its new pilot scholarship scheme aimed at easing access to aviation careers, while supporting the local community in Malta.
Applications for the pilot scholarship scheme will open on 28 May 2024 with training commencing in October 2024. Proposed by Simon Cook, CEO of Universal Air, this program will help to address the financial barriers that often deter aspiring pilots from choosing a career in aviation. With an initial investment of €105,000, Universal Air aims to sponsor comprehensive pilot training for two individuals between the age of 18-55, covering all associated costs, including tuition fees and type ratings.
Universal Air’s CEO, Simon Cook, says: “Our vision at Universal Air is not limited to just flying planes; it is about fostering a culture of opportunity for all. With this scholarship program we are investing in the future of aviation and giving back to the communities we serve. The scheme will unlock the potential of aspiring aviators, and champion opportunities for all within Malta’s aviation industry.”
The scholarship program will cover a 15-month training period per individual, with training
scheduled to commence in October 2024. Universal Air has partnered with the European Pilot Academy in Malta to maximise the impact of the investment. A rigorous selection process will begin in May 2024, and upon completion, successful candidates will join Universal Air as First Officers on the Dash 8-400 fleet, with an expected commitment to Universal Air for a minimum period of five years.
In addition to financial support, Universal Air will also provide trainees with mentorship, guidance, and integration into the company’s culture from the start. The course will cover important areas such as training for the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) exams, training for a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).
Universal Air will strive to secure industry sponsorship and partner with fellow industry leading bodies to ensure a sustainable and mutually beneficial course.
The pilot scholarship program represents a significant milestone in Universal Air’s journey towards excellence, community support, and innovation in the aviation sector.
