The Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli announced a scheme through which a number of gardens will be created in the communities around Malta and Gozo.
The scheme called “Community Gardens Scheme” aims to continue giving more open spaces to the Maltese and Gozitan public. In a news conference it was said how this scheme will be operated by the Local Government Division where more green spaces will be created wherever possible. This innovative and sustainable initiative will provide various social and environmental benefits as well as lead to improvements in physical and mental health.
Through these community gardens a space will be provided for the residents where they can meet, and where they will also be able to grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, and also promote physical activity and inclusion.

Among the localities that will benefit from this scheme are: Balzan, Lija, Swieqi, Fgura, Qormi, Birżebbuġa, Gudja, Santa Venera, Rabat – Malta, Żurrieq and the Qala.
