Work begins on an extensive beautification project in the center of Imtarfa

The main square and the secondary square of Imtarfa will come together in an extensive beautification project with a value of around €2 million. Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia said this during a visit where he saw the works being done on this project.

The existing arches that separate the two squares will be removed so that the Mtarfa square will become a wonderful open space for the local residents. New paving work will be done both in the square and on the pedestrian walkways. A new fountain with a modern style will be built while a new lighting system with low consumption in favor of the environment will be installed.

In addition, a new water reservoir will be built and an existing one will be restored to collect rainwater for watering various trees, flowers and plants that will be planted in this square. The parking area on the Triq ir-Regimenti Maltin side will be restructured and will also include a parking facility for people with disabilities.

The outdoor furniture that will be made for this outdoor project that will continue to beautify the place, will also be making this site more accessible.

Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia said, “This is another project through which we are giving back to the local residents another beautiful and more accessible open space. Week after week we are both inaugurating and starting work on new projects in various localities throughout the country with which we are continuing to make a big difference in the communities where we live. As a Government we are sending a strong message of our plan and vision in this sector to continue improving the quality of life of Maltese and Gozitan families.”

Mayor of Mtartfa Kyle Mifsud welcomed the work and the commitment made by the Department of Public Works so that this long-awaited project by the residents began to be implemented. “The Local Council has been working for the last five years with the concerned authorities and other stakeholders so that the project could be carried out. An old space with inadequate paving will be modernized and we will have a large area in the center of the village that can be enjoyed by the families and the community of Imtarfa,” said Mayor Kyle Mifsud.
