On International Day of Families, the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon launched for public consultation the Social Plan for Families.
This proposed plan involved research and consultations in order to understand the current context, the future challenges and various realities that families around Malta and Gozo will be facing. This plan aims to present a direction for an inclusive society where families can thrive.
It was further explained that the Social Plan for Families was drawn up on three principles which are Social Welfare, Diversity and Resilience. “It is through these principles that we will pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for all families around our islands,” said Minister Falzon.
The plan also focuses on four main priorities which are: social justice for families; healthy family relationships; empowering families with essential skills and knowledge; and addressing the low fertility rate.
“I am convinced that together we can continue to refine this Social Plan for Families to really make a difference that will be felt in the long term and add value to the lives of families around Malta. Therefore I appeal to all interested parties and individuals to participate actively in this public consultation process,” concluded Minister Michael Falzon.
For his part, Permanent Secretary Mark Musu reminded that this consultation is also open to the smallest members of society through the Empowering Children App, so that even children can share their opinions and thoughts. This is in order to prepare a Social and holistic plan that clearly reflects the different needs and aspirations of our communities.
