Another investment for the good of the community in San Gwann

The LESA agency has again financed another local council project in order to improve the quality of life in the community. This time it was the local council of San Gwann that benefited from LESA funds in order to extend the Father Spiteri Donat garden.

The funds that the local council of San Gwann was given are part of the scheme of projects in the community that LESA finances from the money of the summonses. After deducting administrative costs, LESA transfers the money to a fund to finance projects put forward by local councils. In the last three years LESA has financed sixty projects brought forward by the local councils with an expenditure of around three million euros.

For this year LESA will invest almost two million euros on another thirty two projects in Malta and Gozo.

In a speech during the inauguration of the extension of the garden, the Minister for the Interior, Security and Work Byron Camilleri said that the projects in the community vary from environmental projects and open spaces, to improving security in the community and even for clean transport for the residents.

“The success of the scheme happened because on one hand there is the LESA that gives its share so that apart from maintaining order, it is taking part in projects that are improving the quality and health of the people in the community. On the other side are the local councils who, because they know what their locality needs, are putting forward projects that will be enjoyed by everyone,” said Minister Camilleri.

For her part, the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli praised the local council of San Gwann for the work done in this garden. She listed the commitment of the local councils which are the extension of the work of the government in the heart of the communities in particular what has to do with green spaces.

“The local councils are serving to beautify their localities and also offer open spaces to their respective communities. The electoral promise of this government of more green and open spaces is being fulfilled even through projects like these,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.

Also present for the inauguration were the Mayor of the San Ġwann Local Council Trevor Fenech and the CEO of LESA Svetlick Flores.
