The 10th edition of the Valletta Green Festival

 The Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici together with the Chairman of the Cultural Agency for Valletta Jason Micallef opened the 10th edition of the Valletta Green Festival, in St. George Square, the Valletta City, which is being staged between 10 and 19 May 2024.

Minister Owen Bonnici explained how for this festival, St. George Square was transformed into a garden that includes 62 trees, around 5,000 shrubs, together with 13,000 plants and two fountains. The trees include Mediterranean varieties such as locust, cypress, camphor, oleander, and olive trees.

“Through initiatives such as the Valletta Green Festival, we are continuing to keep Valletta alive. I encourage families to attend this festival to even enjoy this garden,” concluded Minister Bonnici.

The Chairman of the Agency Jason Micallef reiterated that this is the biggest edition being staged of the Valletta Green Festival. “We invite families to come and enjoy this wonderful space in the heart of the capital city and the activities that have been planned.”

The activities during the festival include live music from Trakadum, Saturday 11 May between 10.30am and noon and Ta’ Verna Folk Band, Sunday 12 May, between 2pm and 4pm.

Along Triq it-Teatru l’Antik, there will be EcoMarket stands that will be open between 10am and 6pm. The EcoMarket is synonymous with sellers of handmade goods, which are environmentally conscious and sustainable.
One can enjoy a variety of products and services including beauty products, jewelery and fashion items, paintings, decorative items and much more. At the weekend, face painting will be offered for children as well as a number of practical workshops that foster environmental awareness that will be held between the 11th and 12th of May and the 18th and 19th of May, between 3pm and 6pm.
Derek Garden Center and ERA are organizing a number of interactive activities to raise awareness about plants and sustainability.
