During the opening of the EU-Startups Summit in Valletta, a summit convened for the first time in our country, Prime Minister Robert Abela spoke about the Government’s vision that our country continues to work in favor of more economic growth sustainable. He said that this is being done because the Government is supporting the ecosystem of local startups so that the economic growth of our country is driven by innovation and quality.
This summit which is being held with the support of Malta Enterprise is bringing together local and foreign companies and business owners under one roof.
In the presence of many European entrepreneurs and investors, Prime Minister Robert Abela explained that this economic model will be increasing productivity, which translates into jobs with higher wages, more wealth and greater prosperity. He claimed that over the years, our country has managed to attract new economic niches including in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, FinTech, robotics and aviation among others. “While foreign direct investment is and remains important, this does not diminish the importance of local entrepreneurs and professionals,” stressed the Prime Minister.
He referred to the ongoing work for our country to have a Framework for Startups that prepares the way for Malta to be the most startup-friendly European country. He stressed that our country is changing and improving laws to recognize the vulnerabilities of startups, improve fiscal measures and reduce bureaucratic processes for startups operating from Malta.
Dr. Abela said that Malta will remain at the forefront of encouraging the European Union to invest more in startups. This while calling for a European Union with a stronger voice and a more holistic policy for startups.
He stressed that it was no coincidence that the Europe Startup Nations Alliance, the ESNA, ranked our country fourth in the list of European countries with innovative startups. Dr. Abela said that this result is a testimony to all the efforts for our country to create the ideal environment for the establishment of innovative startups that continue to grow and be profitable in Malta.
He concluded by saying that all these efforts will make Malta the most successful European country for setting up innovative and quality startups.
Malta Enterprise is the main sponsor of this event. The collaboration between Malta Enterprise and the EU-Startups Summit ensured a smooth transition for the event to move from Barcelona to Malta, where in this first edition in our country, the level of the event continued to improve.
In recent years Malta Enterprise has established itself as the point of reference for local and international startups coming to Malta, where it is closely helping innovative startups. Malta Enterprise’s assistance in the case of the most innovative companies can reach up to €1.5 million. Malta Enterprise is also working on a national Startup Framework.
