The Association of Builders and Contractors will be part of the Advisory Council on Building and Construction to be another stakeholder part of the changes that are being made in the construction sector.
The Minister for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector Jonathan Attard attended the official inauguration of this association. “Even before it was formally established, I saw in this association a strong interlocutor who has a great contribution in carrying out the reformative process that the sector is going through”, Minister Attard said.
The establishment of this association will strengthen the collaboration between builders, contractors and licensed architects to continue raising standards in the sector. Minister Attard also noted the success of the members who within six months not only managed to reach this milestone but for having managed to register more than 200 members on the day of their formation.
Minister Attard stressed the importance of the collaboration between the association and the authorities while hinting at the need for restructuring and increasing enforcement. This is with the aim of fostering a new culture in which the sector can be allowed to work in harmony with the third parties who until now are still being affected by construction works. “I am convinced that this association will not only be a strong voice for its members, but also a catalyst for real changes in the construction industry”, concluded Minister Attard.
President of the association Michael Cutajar expressed the collective satisfaction of the committee for the news that the Advisory Council Committee on Building and Construction welcomed the recommendation that will offer the possibility of stronger participation in the reforms and changes that need to be made in the sector. He continued with Minister Attard regarding the need for restructuring and more enforcement and stressed that where necessary, drastic measures will be taken such as necessary suspensions until the persons in question regulate themselves so that they can really raise the standards. At the end of the ceremony the members were presented with a certificate of membership in the association.
