The Ministry for Health and Active Aging welcomes the news that the Departments of Cardiology and Diabetes at Mater Dei Hospital have been recognized as Centers of Excellence.
The Department of Cardiology was recognized for the iVAC 2L technology by PulseCath. This is an international leader in cardiovascular technology and this recognition is a testament to the commitment of the Department of Cardiology to advance medical innovation and improve patient care. This intervention offers assistance and support to the heart while other procedures are underway on the valves or cardiac arteries.
PulseCath recognized the achievements in performing many complex procedures by the Department of Cardiology. They said the Department’s expertise, innovation and commitment to advancing medical technology not only helped the Department’s reputation but also contributed significantly to the advancement of patient care.
The Diabetes Department, within the Department of Internal Medicine, has also been recognized by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), providing comprehensive services and multidisciplinary education, with a team of healthcare professionals. health working together to provide coordinated care and education.
The Diabetes center at Mater Dei has carried out important research on diabetes, which has not only strengthened knowledge about the local diabetes situation, but has also contributed to advancing what is known about diabetes and handling it.
This recognition was obtained thanks to the high standards and selection criteria established by the IDF and where to date, there are only 22 other centers so recognized globally. IDF said it looks forward to welcoming the Mater Dei Diabetes Center as a member of the global network of IDF Centers, to continue building capacity to deliver quality diabetes care and education in their respective regions.
In a visit he made to the Departments of Diabetes and Cardiology at Mater Dei Hospital, Minister Jo Etienne Abela thanked the professionals for their work and wished them and other departments to continue providing excellence care. “We are proud of the advances that are being made in these areas and I am sure that this recognition will translate into a lot of good for the Gowis and the Maltese,” concluded Minister Abela.
