Another 20 immigrants who had arrived in Malta illegally were relocated.
The work was carried out by the Ministry for the Interior, Security and Work in collaboration with the International Organization of Immigration (IOM) and the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA).
This is continuing on the work that was started in the past months and years in order to relocate to other Member States, immigrants who arrived irregularly in Malta. This relocation was done through the Voluntary Solidarity Mechanism.
The Ministry for the Interior, Security and Work claims that relocation is the most efficient way of how the European Union and the Member States can reduce the challenges that come with irregular immigration, with particular attention on the border countries, especially in the case of Malta.
While those immigrants who deserve protection will be helped and given all their rights according to the law, those immigrants who do not deserve protection, or who are living in Malta irregularly, are being returned to the – their country of origin.
The work of the Immigration Police, the Detention Services Agency and other departments within the Ministry for the Interior, Security and Work will continue in this regard.
The relocation is co-financed by the European Union, under the Asylum, Immigration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
