The Malta Women’s National Team will hit the ground running with its first match in the Women EURO 2025 Qualifiers, facing Northern Ireland away from home.
The game scheduled for the 5th of April, will be Malta’s maiden game in League B Group 3, following promotion achieved last December during the Nations League Qualifiers where Malta managed to win the group after a fascinating run of results seeing them winning five matches, held only once, and never unbeaten.
The draw which took place earlier this week in Nyon, pitted Malta in the same group with Portugal, Northern Ireland, and Bosnia Herzegovina.
The Malta Women’s Team under the guidance of Head Coach Manuela Tesse will be vying to hit higher standards, fully aware of a much tougher challenge lying ahead, with all three teams in the group enjoying a better ranking than Malta.
The first home match for Malta in this competition is set for the 9th of April against Portugal who are currently ranked 21st in the FIFA ranking and are the favourites to finish top in the group.
The next window in this competition is scheduled to start at the end of May with Malta scheduled to face Bosnia Herzegovina both home and away on May 31 and June 4 respectively.
The final commitments see Malta host Northern Ireland on July 12th before an away fixture against Portugal four days later.
The four group winners and two best-ranked runners-up in League B enter the play-offs for the Women’s EURO.
Meanwhile promotion and relegation will also be at stake ahead of the next UEFA Women’s Nations League, beginning the 2025–27 competition cycle:
– The runners-up and three best-ranked third-placed teams in League B stay in League B.
– The winners of Leagues B will be promoted to League A while the fourth-placed teams in League B, as well as the lowest-ranked third-placed team of League B, will be relegated to League C.
