The Minister for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector Jonathan Attard announced that in line with the Government’s commitment to give a stronger voice to the citizens affected by the construction sector, the Building and Construction Authority issued two public calls of interest. One of the calls is for lawyers and the other is for architects who are interested in joining a pool of professionals that will be providing this new service.
“One of the priorities that we have put in front of us in the reform of the construction sector, is that of giving a stronger voice to those citizens who want to protect their rights from the construction sector and we will make it happen with investment in new services such as free legal and technical professional assistance”, stressed Minister Attard.
Minister Attard said that this service will eventually be complemented by a 24/7 helpline, where one can report and forward their complaints. This helpline will be working in tandem with the strengthening of enforcement through a centralized section.
The Minister reiterated his commitment to offer more peace of mind to citizens who feel worried when they are negatively affected by any development that is taking place near them.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) will be accepting applications to select the professionals to form this panel. This is to be able to launch the new free service for the benefit of the citizens affected by the construction sector.
The public call will remain open until 29 March 2024 and can be accessed from: www.bca.org.mt
