A new recreational space was inaugurated in Toni Vella Garden in the heart of the Naxxar locality. This space was inaugurated this morning by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli in the presence of the Naxxar Local Council.
This project was carried out with an investment of around €40,000 through the scheme of the Local Government Division ‘Financing for the Development and Improvement of the conditions of the Playing Fields in Localities in Malta and Gozo’. The main objective of this scheme is for local councils to continue supporting the importance of sport and recreation, which are two important factors that contribute to a better quality of life. With this project an open space was created for recreation and a safer place for the children and for the residents of this locality.
Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli emphasized that the local councils know best the needs of their respective localities and it is for this purpose that the government continues to launch these types of schemes in order to be implemented by -respective local councils. “Thanks to this project the residents of Naxxar have another place for recreation, a few steps away from where they live”, pointed out the parliamentary secretary. She also praised the initiative and the work of the Naxxar Local Council in favor of this project.
Mayor of Naxxar Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami claimed that thanks to these financial schemes, the local council was given additional funds that were necessary to continue carrying out various projects and initiatives for the benefit of Naxxar residents. . She referred to the various investments that have been made in recent years in Naxxar through these schemes, among them, a new swing and an outdoor gym in the Sgħtar area, improvements in Gnien il Haddieda and the restoration of the Mill of Għba.
It was also explained that through schemes issued by the government, the local council is working on three other open space projects which include a new swing in San Pawl tat-Tarġa, a new garden in Triq il-Labour and other gardens in Baħar i-ħagħaq.
