As part of the delegation of the President of Malta on an official visit to Lithuania, the Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said had a number of meetings in Lithuania on fishing and animal protection. This is with the aim of discussing the common challenges, as well as the possibility of greater collaboration between the two countries, on the fishing and animal welfare sectors.
The Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said, together with the Ambassador of Malta to Lithuania Dr. Alexander Scerri Herrera, met with Vytautas Abukaoskas, the Deputy Minister of Lithuania responsible for Animal Protection. During this meeting, the Parliamentary Secretary spoke on the ongoing work by the Maltese Government in favor of animals. She also stressed the need for European countries to continue working together, to spur various solutions to common challenges among the Member States. During the meeting they agreed that there would be more collaboration between the two countries in favor of animal protection.
Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said also had a meeting with Donatas Dudutis, the Deputy Minister for Fisheries in Lithuania. During this meeting they talked about the common European policy for the fishing and aquaculture sectors and how these sectors play an important role for food security and local access to fish. The two countries also talked about the effects that the Covid pandemic as well as the war in Ukraine had on the fishermen and they agreed that there should be more collaboration in favor of food security as well as a common vision for -future of fishing.
Parliamentary Secretary Bugeja Said stressed that these types of meetings are very important and lead to more collaboration between countries for the benefit of the sectors concerned.
