In Žebbuġ, the Division for Cleaning and Maintenance is carrying out important interventions to remove construction waste that has accumulated over the years in a residential area bordering Triq Ambroġ Butkiġġ also known as the area of Muxi.
In the first few days, the Division removed approximately 2,000 tons of waste in the mentioned area, where it is being separated in order to be disposed of in the facilities that receive this type of waste. The Division for Cleaning and Maintenance will continue cleaning in this area where it is estimated that another 3,000 tons of waste will be removed. All cleanup in this open space is planned to be completed in the coming weeks.
During the past year the Division for Cleaning and Maintenance collected more than 21,000 tons of illegally dumped waste.
These details were announced in a news conference addressed by the Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness Clayton Bartolo and the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Cleanliness Glenn Bedingfield in the presence of the Director General of the Division for Cleaning and Maintenance Ramon Deguara and the Mayor of Žebbuġ Mark Camilleri.
Minister Clayton Bartolo mentioned how great efforts are being made so that public cleanliness in the localities is better than it was before. “We embarked on a national project that must lead us to make public cleanliness and maintenance an integral part of daily life among our communities. We are determined that in the coming weeks and months we will continue to make a difference with the good work that Clean Malta is doing in public cleanliness and maintenance,” stressed Minister Clayton Bartolo.
The Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield mentioned how this project is being done in collaboration with the Local Council of Đaz-Zebbuġ after it was proposed by the same council where even the local residents were consulted. ” I encourage more local councils to approach us with more ideas and initiatives, so that in collaboration with the Division for Cleaning and Maintenance these projects are carried out for the good of our communities,” repeated Parliamentary Secretary Bedingfield.
