Programme in schools on the protection of animals in collaboration with the MSPCA

A collaboration between the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation and the Maltese Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (MSPCA) led to the launch of the Acts of Kindness, which is part of the Personal, Social, and Career Development (PSCD) Curriculum in schools.

Through this project a new booklet of exercises will be distributed in classrooms around Malta and Gozo with activities intended to be used in the classroom as part of the PCSD curriculum to cover curriculum subjects through the welfare of the animals to get the message across. In addition, people from the MSPCA will be available to visit schools to talk about this booklet in relation to the PSCD curriculum topics and the importance of animal welfare.

During the launch of this project, the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima said, “Through this collaboration we are continuing to give importance to the protection of animals and we will continue to teach the children about a subject that is also close to their hearts. I reiterate that complete education means raising children as responsible citizens in every sector of life.”

Louiselle Grech from the MSPCA explained that the organization has been engaged in animal welfare education in schools as part of the curriculum for decades. She continued that this project is intended as one of the many means to promote empathy, responsible behavior, and more awareness about the protection of animals.

Emma Pullicino, Brand Manager of M&Z plc, reiterated the company’s satisfaction that they are supporting this project as well as the MSPCA’s Act of Kindness campaign.
