The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation , together with SportMalta , contributed sports equipment to the Maltese Surfing Federation. This equipment contribution is part of the legacy that SportMalta carried out with an investment during the Small Countries Games.
The Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima stated, “As a Ministry as well as SportMalta we are seeing how to find means and opportunities to support our sportsmen. This initiative is one of the several ongoing projects, in this case we are giving our support and support to the sportsmen and the sports discipline that we have seen great progress in in recent years . I hope that through we will have more of this device.”
Through this contribution of equipment, the Maltese Sailing Federation was today given a set of eight automatic buoys (SMARTMARKS) with the most modern technology in order to improve the level of sailing racing, while facilitating the -organization of these races and regattas. Along with these six buoys, the Federation was also given four offshore coaching ribs so that the teaching of the sport of boarding can be done in a more professional and safe way .
The Vice Chairperson of SportMalta Matthew Pisani explained how the Maltese Surfing Federation, with the support of SportMalta, was active in the promotion of this sport and these efforts generated a substantial increase in the activities of the sailing, as well as the use of sailing as a sport by young Maltese. He said that Malta’s geography is excellent for practice and eventual successful performances in this sport. The President of the Sailing Federation, Michael Mifsud stressed how the Federation brought the best result to Malta in the Small Countries Games held in June 2023. “The sport of sailing has always brought honors to our shores and with this investment, this talent and work will be supported better than ever before” , said Mifsud.
These ribs will be given to the clubs that are members of the federation: Birżebbuġa Sailing Club, Malta Young Sailors Club, Royal Malta Yacht Club and Vikings Sailing Club
