Active Aging and Care in the Community reached an agreement with the Marsa Local Council to set up an Active Aging Center in Marsa in order to offer various lifelong learning opportunities, educational talks, and other activities for the elderly , in this locality. With this center in Marsa the number of Active Aging Centers has now risen to 30 and no less than 2,218 members attend these centres.
The hall located in the building of the same council, which building has just been renovated, will be used for this purpose. The center in Marsa will be managed by Active Aging and Community Care workers in collaboration with the local council, who together designed a program of activities aimed at the elderly with the aim of continuing to promote learning throughout life, physical and mental activity and social interaction among the elderly.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Active Aging, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, who presided over the signing of the agreement, explained that this new center is another important step to address loneliness among the elderly. “It is essential to provide our seniors with spaces where they can meet, learn and keep their social ties alive. Our idea is to open more centers like this in other locations to ensure that our seniors have access to these services as close as possible to their homes”.
The Center for Active Aging in Marsa will start being open twice a week between 8.00am and 3.15pm in the winter, and between 8.00am and 1.00pm in the summer.
