Fifty students successfully completed a course within the Armed Forces of Malta, through which they learned essential things that they may encounter throughout their lives. These students, whose age varies between 14 and 17 years, together with their youth workers from the Foundation for Social Services (FSWS) had a three-week training program in various services and trades of the Armed Forces of Malta.
In this exercise the students carried out a number of different sessions, during which they were asked to show their physical and psychological capacity and how they can solve situations on an individual basis as well as through a collective act.
This FSWS project started in the year 2015, and 144 students graduated from it, and even a number of them today work in the Disciplined Forces of Malta.
Meanwhile, these students have been selected to participate in this program known as ‘ Adolescent Day Programme’, which helps to maximize the social and emotional development of the students.
During these last weeks they were given the chance to carry out work related to mechanics, engineering and other manual work, in order to give them an idea of the different jobs in which they can be interested in different careers.
At the end of this training the students were given a certificate by the Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality, Byron Camilleri, by the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon and by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Malta, Clinton O’Neill.
Minister Byron Camilleri said that this ceremony is the culmination of everything that these young people have done over the last few weeks in the various sections of the Armed Forces of Malta. He said that the Armed Forces offer an unparalleled opportunity to achieve one’s aspirations, and it is a journey that goes beyond personal ambitions and offers a commitment to something greater, to serve and protect the nation and its citizens.
For his part, Minister Michael Falzon said, “This government will continue to work to address new social realities, and while we give dignity to every person, we see that society continues to enjoy a sense of stability and discipline, we see that no one falls behind, regardless of what they are going through or that they are at a disadvantage as a consequence of the environment they live in.”
