A program of activities has been launched that will be staged during this year to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the locality of Floriana. The program consists of a number of activities that vary from social, sporting, educational, as well as new initiatives and projects to be enjoyed by the residents and by everyone who visits the locality of Floriana.
During the launch of this program, the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli praised the commitment of the Floriana Local Council for the design of this program.
“Commemorating the establishment of the localities is really a significant way of celebrating the history, culture and identity of the community,” said the Parliamentary Secretary. She called for the involvement of the community in the realization of this program which leads to a collective and inclusive celebration.
A logo designed by the artist Jake Muscat was also launched for the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the locality of Floriana.
The Mayor of Floriana Vincent Borg said that in order to choose the logo, the Local Council of Floriana issued a public call and there were a total of 6 submissions. He explained that the selection was made through a vote by the sub-committee that was set up for the occasion.
The President of the Port Region Paul Farrugia said that this year the regional council allocated funds for the local councils within it in order to continue supporting the rich culture and traditions that shape the localities of the Port.
Several councilors were also present during the launch.
