After two hundred consultation meetings and dialogue with educators, parents, students, entities and other ministries, the last step was launched today, that of public consultation to eventually launch the new Strategy for Education 2024-2030.
The launch was made by the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima at the National Library in Valletta.
“Last April we launched the first step, the beginning of dialogue and consultation to design the new Strategy for Education 2024-2030. Today we are launching the last step of consultation: a public consultation to close a cycle of meetings and wide consultations. In these eight months we held more than 200 consultation and dialogue meetings. This means that the Ministry has not put a document ready for discussion, but has started consultation and discussion to draft this document,” said Minister Grima.
He said that as soon as the consultation with the educators began, a new strategy for Education began to be drawn up from the ground up which will lead the educational sector to the year 2030 and beyond. The aim is that through the Strategy our country has a system that better helps all students to develop their full potential while reaching all their aspirations. A strategy that will put the person in the center.
“We want to see our children succeed and that is why we are renewing our commitment to give the best educational experience, quality education. A strategy that sees that our educational system adapts more to the needs of children and not the other way around. We want to make sure that our education system is preparing students in the best way for the world of work. That is why this strategy will transform the education sector,” said Minister Grima.
The theoretical framework of the National Education Strategy 2024-2030 is based on the concept of transformation, a process that recognizes past achievements and builds on them, while at the same time orienting itself to the demands of the future.
The Strategy has three main pillars with the central pillar being that of Welfare, the second pillar is that of Growth and Emancipation, and the third pillar is Equity and Inclusion.
“Through 36 measures and 120 initiatives we will continue to see a transformation in education that will support professionals in this sector, as well as students. Through the change from initiatives to programs, we will be ensuring the holistic development of students. While through the Family-Community-School Link program it will be helping families, involving communities and supporting schools through an integrated approach. We want to continue with a dialogue with all the parties concerned to work and collaborate together,” said the Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Education Matthew Vella.
