A project has come to an end with an investment of €700,000 from European funds which led to an improvement in the quality of life of the elderly residents in San Vincenzo de Paul, as well as a reduction in energy consumption in the residence. This was announced during a news conference by the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela and the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett.
It was explained how through this investment improvements were made in six halls in San Vincenzo de Paul where apertures were changed so that they are double glazed and thus more efficient in the use of energy and more welcoming to the elements; as well as blackout curtains were installed.
The Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained how this investment will be improving the quality of life of around 190 residents as well as the workers who work in these wards. He reiterated that this project continues to show the work that the government is carrying out in favor of the elderly
“Through such projects we are continuing to improve the service provided to the residents in San Vincenzo, as well as continuing to work towards the environmental core,” concluded Minister Abela.
Parliamentary Secretary Chris Bonett spoke about how while this project is a direct investment in the elderly residents of San Vincenzo de Paule, these changes will drastically reduce energy consumption in the residence. He added that this measure contributes to Malta reaching the goals and directives of the European Union regarding energy.
“This project is part of the funding of priority axis 4 of the European Regional Development Fund which is dedicated to support projects for energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in public infrastructure , including in public buildings. Committed that with the help of European Funds we will continue to invest in equipment with which we will make the lives of the residents better and at the same time we will continue to reach the goals of our country and the European directives in the field of energy,” Parliamentary Secretary Bonett concluded.
