The Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi together with the Mayor of San Ġwann, Trevor Fenech, inaugurated the George Zarb Garden in San Ġwann.
The Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi thanked the workers of the Department of Public Works for the work they did together with the workers of the Local Council in order to transform this area, which was found in a derelict state into a garden that can now be is enjoyed by the community.
The Minister praised the work of the Local Councils for projects they are carrying out so that various areas in their localities are regenerated into nicer open spaces equipped with all the facilities. Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi said that this is an example of how the Public Works Department is supporting these projects.
The Mayor of San Ġwann Trevor Fenech said that thanks to this collaboration with the Department of Public Works, the locality of San Ġwann has another public garden complete with all facilities and accessible to everyone.
In order to carry out this work, a new design of the area had to be made in order to make comfortable paving for better access that goes around the existing trees. Afterwards a new more efficient lighting system was installed and new benches and rubbish bins were placed. The garden was further decorated with more plants and shrubs.
Present for this inauguration was the Director General of the Department of Public Works, Architect Stephen Bonello together with several architects and workers from the department who worked on this project.
