On the margins of COP28, in Dubai, Prime Minister Robert Abela addressed an event organized by Malta, which focused on the adaptation and resilience of small islands to climate change.
An event during which the Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that the Maltese Government will be funding another project, this time a research project, which will be strengthening the Climate Vulnerability and Resilience Index, a tool that helps small islands identify the -their vulnerabilities to the effects of climate change to be able to accommodate them.
In his address, Prime Minister Robert Abela reiterated that if we do not update the way in which we operate, we will not only face great economic costs but we will destroy the quality of life of our families and that therefore as a country we are also pushing an agenda with which small states around the world such as Malta, address challenges linked to climate change including with the Islands for Islands initiative that the Prime Minister had announced at COP26. An initiative that led to the Malta Energy and Water Agency assisting other islands to increase their capacity in better management of scarce water resources and therefore helping small islands that are still developing to overcome unique challenges that they face related to climate change.
