Young farmers will be able to benefit from €5.1 million of European funds to expand in the agricultural sector and invest in modern technology. This was announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo, together with Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds, Chris Bonett, during a visit to a dairy farm run by a 25-year-old youth who recently received this aid to start producing dairy products.
Eligible farmers may benefit from a maximum of €100,000 in order to carry out a business plan leading to the upgrading of the establishment of their agricultural business. This fund increased by €30,000 from that of the previous scheme.
Minister Anton Refalo explained, “This scheme is intended for our young farmers, who need help and support to overcome the obstacles they face in establishing themselves in the agricultural sector. Youths are essential for the sustainability of a sector in need of renovation in order to continue to function and be strengthened in the coming years.”
Parliamentary Secretary Chris Bonett explained how, with the help of European funds and government subsidies, we will be reviving the agricultural sector by supporting young farmers while safeguarding the food supply in our country.
“This government is committed to continuing to address the realities faced by every individual in every sector of our country while catering for the workers of tomorrow, such as our young farmers, so that we truly have a just Malta for the good of the community,” stated Dr Bonett.
Eligible persons are urged to contact the Managing Authority or the Agriculture and Rural Payments Agency (ARPA) for further guidance so that they can confirm eligibility and prepare their application to apply by the end of November.
