A week before the 2024 Budget is presented, Prime Minister Robert Abela continued to meet with key partners to discuss their proposals for next year’s Budget.
On Monday, with the Association of Employers, the MEA, the labor market was discussed. During this consultation meeting, the Prime Minister said that the investment in the skills of the workers will lead to the strengthening of the labor market in our country. This is as a number of decisions were taken so that more workers have more skills.
Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that as during the last years we had a labor policy that incentivized everyone to work, now we will strengthen the emphasis on incentivizing training. “We have already started to give clear signals. The reform in stipends, the technical trades center at MCAST and the introduction of the Skills Passport in the field of hospitality will all help more workers have the skills”, said the Prime Minister. and points out that the Government will also support employers in initiatives that are part of the country’s new priorities, namely the digital and environmental hearts.
Other measures taken by the Government which will continue to strengthen the labor market are about the reform for Y-plate drivers and the regularization of temping agencies. “These are rules in the interest of our country and robust against applications of foreign workers in sectors for which there is no need”, stressed the Prime Minister.
This meeting was also attended by the Minister for Finance and Work Clyde Caruana, the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli, the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul and the Government Deputy Naomi Cachia.
