The Prime Minister Robert Abela visits a project in the community of Għaxaq

Projects in the heart of the communities that make a difference in the social and cultural life of the residents will continue to find the support of the Government. And from the largest allocation of European funds since we became member states of the European Union, it is also necessary to support initiatives of this type that invest in areas that offer relaxation to the community, while protecting the beauty of -life in the villages.

This was the message of Prime Minister Robert Abela during a visit he made to the Għaxaq Bocce Club, accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett. A visit during which he could see the projects carried out by this club, through European funds, including the improvement and renovation of the club’s facilities. The Prime Minister pointed out that such projects in the heart of the community, are translating into an amazing environment in our towns and villages, so that the community can enjoy a more comfortable environment and continue to strengthen and preserve what makes us Maltese, the traditions that make Malta unique.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to talk to those gathered about various themes, so that he continues to hear from different interests about what they want for their communities. In this case, with the projects carried out by the Għaxaq Bocce Club, it strengthened the cultural identity and the traditional sport of bocce games. In fact, with the works they have carried out, those who form part of this club can practice this type of sport both in summer and in winter, through a pergola that protects the players from the elements , while those familiar with this sport and who go to follow the games can now do so in a renovated space.

Robert Abela reiterated that this is why the work in favor of Malta does not cut anything, so that it will be the Gowis and the Maltese who reap the fruits of the results achieved by this Government. The LEADER Programme, which is funded through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, funds projects in rural communities that reflect their unique needs. This is with the aim that the country also addresses the local needs, which complement the work and the policy that is being operated at a national level.
