The digital and financial platform GEMMA within the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, the Foundation for Educational Services, together with the HSBC Malta Foundation collaborated on a project aimed at the children who participated in SkolaSajf.
This year, 2,500 children of different ages between 8 and 15 who attended Summer School in both Malta and Gozo, took part in the “Piece by Peace” activity. During these sessions, the concept of social responsibility was advanced where the children were given more knowledge about the financial decisions they should make and how they reflect social and environmental principles, among others.
A team of educators together with volunteers from HSBC worked on this project to create and deliver interactive training sessions that were practical, hands-on and at the same time fun and interesting for the children. A competition was also launched for children in teams of four to create a poster of their imaginary company.
On Tuesday morning, three prizes were awarded to the groups of students, who managed to create the most innovative ideas and prepared a poster with four main initiatives, all linked to social responsibility.
The Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon expressed his satisfaction for the continued interest in this concept of financial knowledge even among children and teenagers. The minister stressed that this government will continue to build collaborations, even with the private sector, in order to encourage sustainable spending. “We understand the pressures that parents face in order to buy their children the best and the best, both in terms of the educational field and material things that the children want. But it is good to be an example and show them that every decision must be made with thought and planning, and not to put financial pressure in the following days,” concluded Minister Michael Falzon.
