Four police officers have been suspended over alleged discrepancies in the mileage shown on imported cars, TVM News reports.
Since the beginning of this year, Transport Malta has taken over inspections and certification of imported cars from countries outside of the EU, these checks having previously been carried out by the police.
It is believed that around 450 cars had their mileage tampered with the actual mileages turned back to show a much lower total.
Two car importers are alleged to be involved in the illegal tampering of the mileage on cars they brought into Malta.
