40 recruits joined the Police Force as constables, after successfully completing the training course for recruits. The training, which lasted seven months, was conducted by the Disciplined Forces Academy and included physical and academic aspects.
This course is one accredited at MQF level 4 by the Malta Authority for Advanced and Higher Education, and which will lead to these new constables starting to provide service to the community and our country. A total of 63 subjects were taught in this course such as ethics, diversity, the laws of Malta, rules and procedures, investigations of crimes such as domestic violence, child abuse on electronic sites, offenses sexual and mental health awareness, among others.
The Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri told the new constables that the day of the oath is not the day of arrival but the beginning of a career much satisfaction and working for the benefit of the community within the Police Force. “Be honest and combine your duty with a sense of justice, with dignity towards every person who needs your service and with a sense of empathy. Be the shield of the society that places responsibility and trust on your shoulders. Be part of a continuous change that the Police Force is going through and be part of this renewal. As a Government we will continue to invest in you, as we have done; both through a sectoral agreement that is being discussed in order to be renewed, both in your training and education and in the tools you use,” said Minister Camilleri.
Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà said that this is not just any job, but this is a career that the Corps is committed to continuing to develop into a profession in partnership with other entities, including the Academy, the University of Malta and other entities, including foreign ones. “Keep this enthusiasm that you have alive in you and I rely on you to be the main protagonists in the renewal that we are going through. Through you I want to continue to see a Body with a young spirit thirsty for change. At the same time I encourage you to maintain the discipline and sense of responsibility that have been instilled in you in these last seven months and above all to see that you always honor the values of the Body, particularly the accounting, the -justice, honesty, integrity, respect for your friends and to be of service to the Maltese and Gozitan people,” concluded the Commissioner.
The award for the most distinguished recruit, the ‘PC Mark Farrugia Award’, was given to Luca Mifsud. Also present for this ceremony was the Commander of the Academy of Disciplined Bodies Karen Galea, the Chairperson of the Board of the Academy Prof. Raymond Mangion and the Director of Studies Captain Reuben Lanfranco.
