Newcastle United lifted the Sela Cup, presented by VisitMalta – and ended their pre-season campaign unbeaten – with a win over Villarreal in their final match before the Premier League season kicks off next weekend.
Following their 2-0 win against Fiorentina on Saturday, manager Eddie Howe knew Newcastle only needed to avoid defeat to lift the Sela Cup. He need not have worried. Newcastle were simply too classy for Villareal. Two goals from new signing Harvey Barnes on his home debut, an early strike by Jacob Murphy and a stunning solo run and strike from Joelinton sealed a positive weekend for the St James’s Park side.
