A space that was abandoned for many years in Triq il-Habs l’Antik in Birgu, has been turned into an open and regenerated one that can be enjoyed by the Birgu community – a project that was financed by the LESA Agency, and managed by the Birgu Local Council.
The works consisted of beautifying the area, installing benches and other furniture, and planting olive trees. Through the LESA Agency, 60 projects have been carried out or are being carried out in the heart of the localities of Malta and Gozo, in partnership with the Local Councils, with an investment of more than €3 million and this as part of corporate social responsibility of the same agency, which invests the money collected from the summons back into the community.
In a visit by the Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri, he said how through the LESA Agency the Government is continuing to invest in the heart of the various localities around Malta and Gozo. “We have invested in an open space in Birgu in partnership with the Local Council, in Triq il-Habs l’Antik, where through this investment, this space which until recently was abandoned, has been transformed into a place that residents can enjoy. We are committed to continue investing not only in Birgu but in other locations around Malta and Gozo,” concluded Minister Camilleri.
Mayor of Birgu, John Boxall explained how this project was done with the scheme of the LESA Agency which was launched two years ago and the Local Council of Birgu saw how to immediately obtain funds from it. “A small space that was abandoned and has now been transformed into a recreation area especially for the people of this locality. I thank the agency that is making these funds accessible, while I appeal to other Local Councils so that they too benefit from this scheme in order to make nicer and better places for their residents,” concluded the Mayor of Birgu.
The CEO of the LESA Agency, Svetlick Flores, said that the LESA Agency continues to invest in communities through 60 projects around the country that are being enjoyed or will be enjoyed by the public in time which is coming. “Here, we are seeing an open space that until a few years ago was an abandoned space and, with an investment of more than €50,000, it has become a recreational area that can be enjoyed by residents,” concluded Mr. Flores.
