The Ministry for Justice, through the Court Services Agency and in collaboration with the British High Commission, organized a seminar on court experts. The Head of the National Crime Agency in Wyboston, Jim Shingler, gave a presentation of the model that is used within the British Agency, including how experts are identified and their recruitment is done.
In an open discussion and exchange of ideas with those present, Mr. Shingler explained how certain aspects of the model can be applied in Malta and how the two countries can collaborate together. The Minister for Justice Jonathan Attard said that it was the Ministry itself that requested that there be cooperation on this subject and this with the intention of discussing the practices and experiences that the United Kingdom has on this matter.
“This seminar is a clear proof of how aware the Government is of the realities and challenges that exist in our country in the Court experts sector. This will be an opportunity to look at what changes and reforms need to be made in the future so that even in this area we see that standards rise, efficiency increases and there is accountability in the investment made in the sector,” stressed Minister Attard.
This seminar was also addressed by the Permanent Secretary Johan Galea and the British Deputy High Commissioner, Tristan Gilchrist. This seminar was also attended by a number of senior officials who form part of our country’s judicial system and representatives of the British High Commission.
