The work on two major projects in the educational infrastructure in Gozo is well underway and when it is completed, both the students who attend the Rabat Educational Complex, Gozo, as well as the Nadur Primary School, will have an educational environment from the best.
An investment of €24.3 million is being made in these two projects together. The Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri together with the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima visited these projects and were given information about the work being done.
During the visit, Minister Camilleri stated; “The work is well underway in these two projects on the island of Goztija. At the Nadur school we managed to carry out an extensive beautification project and a redesign of the open spaces without taking the children out of school. The Rabat school project is then one of the three massive projects currently underway in this area – the Aquatic and Sports Center and the Gozo Museum. All this with the aim of creating the best environment for our children.”
Minister Grima said; “These two projects are two of a number of projects currently underway by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools and through them we are investing to see that we provide an educational environment that suits both our students and our educators.”
The building of a new Primary School in Rabat, Gozo, which will replace the present one and which is approximately 160 years old, is a project with an investment of approximately €18 million and also involves the expansion and modernization of the Middle School on the same campus. This Educational Complex of Victoria, Gozo is the only one of its kind in the country. Construction work was completed earlier this month and mechanical work and electrical installations are currently underway, including the installation of various electrical, water, air conditioning, and plumbing services. information technology. This campus includes a childcare centre, kindergarten, Primary School, Middle School, Senior School, as well as the Sixth Form and new sports facilities. The excavation and construction work was carried out under the supervision of archaeologists from the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage because archaeological remains were found on the site and to preserve them well an archaeological interpretation center was built within the school building.
The Nadur Primary School project involves the extensive beautification of the existing primary school, with an investment of €6.3 million and for which there are funds under the NextGenerationEU Programs through the Malta Recovery and Resilience Plan. Apart from the complete beautification of the school inside and out, the project includes the redesign of the open and recreational spaces, as well as the creation of new spaces for teaching extra-curricular subjects, including dance studio, music room, literacy room, theater studio, and art classes.
Accessibility in the building will also be addressed so that it is in accordance with the law and several energy efficient measures will be introduced. The beautification work in this school is being done in two phases, with the construction works in the first phase being finished and currently the mechanical and electrical works, and other work are being done. The project will be ready for the 2023-2024 school year.
