Investigations by the police in relation to information about alleged drug trafficking in St Julians, led to the arrest of a 36-year-old Englishman. It was about half past eleven on Friday evening, when officers were informed that there was a man who may have drugs in Triq Wilġa, St Julians.
When police approached him he tried to flee but officers stopped him and he was carrying a pouch containing money and a mobile.
He was arrested and taken to the St Julians police station where a more intensive search was carried out and found bag containing about 17 sachets with a substance suspected to be cocaine.
As a result police also made a search in the hotel he is living in, where in a basket that was under the bed, they found around 20 sachets with a substance suspected to be cocaine, among them other things. The drug found, about 60 grams of cocaine, could have been sold on the market meet the €3,000.
