More support for athletes announced

The Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that the Government will be dedicating €5 million from the Social Fund for National Development (NDSF) to continue to be invested exclusively on the training and preparation of the athletes and with so as a country we continue to build on what was invested in preparation for the Games of the Small Countries of Europe 2023 welcomed in Malta.

The Prime Minister announced this in a short address he made in Pjazza Castilja Valletta, during the “Celebrating Team Malta” activity. Our country achieved the best result in history with the victory of 97 medals and winning these Games as it came in first place in the medals table.

Prime Minister Abela said that together with the re-dedicated investment from the NDSF, the Government will continue to invest in the sports infrastructure, in the national sports school and in many other sporting aspects. “We want to continue sending the message that sport should be part of the way we live as Maltese,” said the Prime Minister and thanked the athletes and the people who were behind them. He wished them to achieve more successes for our country.

Meanwhile, during the event “Celebrating Team Malta” full of spectacle in which the athletes were the protagonists, the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima  praised the Maltese contingent. “Congratulations to all the athletes and sportsmen who have done great honor to our country,” stressed Minister Grima.

The President of the Maltese Olympic Committee Julian Pace Bonello thanked many of them including the Maltese Government who contributed financially to be able to carry out the sports technical preparation plan that the Committee wanted. This while the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the Games of Small Countries Mark Cutajar showed satisfaction for the goals reached in these Games and noted how this international sports event continued to contribute in a positive way for the economy. He also thanked the Maltese athletes.
