WasteServ announced the winners of the 10th edition of the Malta Waste Reduction Awards. This event celebrated outstanding actions carried out by schools, public administration, companies, NGOs, and citizens throughout the European Week for Waste Reduction. The theme of this event was on Circular and Sustainable Textiles, whereby participants had the opportunity to showcase their initiatives on waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
A panel of experts assessed the entries and selected the winners, where each winner received funding to bolster waste reduction efforts together with a trophy. A total of €17,000 in prizes were awarded during this event.
Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Enterprise Miriam Dalli praised all participants for their impactful actions that raised awareness of the waste generated by the textile and clothing industry.
“It is these initiatives which encourage us even further, where we see various stakeholders participating and contributing towards a circular economy. Furthermore, these initiatives continue to enhance our policymaking by raising awareness on sustainable and thoughtful consumption and production,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.
WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca conveyed his gratitude to all the participants and highlighted how their actions motivated the public to play a more active role in waste prevention and separation.
Additionally, this event recognised the outstanding efforts of Local Councils in advancing waste management with prizes awarded to the top three localities from Malta and Gozo, which were the Vittoriosa Local Council, Fontana Local Council and Senglea Local Council.
The European Week for Waste Reduction is the largest campaign in Europe aimed at promoting waste prevention and aiming to inspire and encourage different community actors to develop impactful actions towards this goal. This year’s campaign will take place from the 18 to the 26 November, with a focus on packaging waste.
Present for this ceremony was also Acting President of Malta Frank Bezzina.

Waste Reduction Award in Citizens Category – Ciangura Family
Waste Reduction Award for Best Practice in Most Innovative Initiative – Martina Caruana
