A woman died after being found unconscious in the sea at Font Ghadir in Sliema.
Police received a report on Saturday afternoon that four women had been swept into the sea by powerful waves.
Three of the women managed to get back to shore but the fourth was not able to do.
A rescue effort by the AFM and Civil Protection units managed to locate the woman who was taken by a rescue launch to St Julian’s and then taken to Mater Dei Hospital but was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said the other three women were taken to hospital but their condition is not known.
